Managed Service of Crowd Funding Platform on AWS Platform

2. The Challenge
Since its founding in 2012, It has quickly become a very popular crowdfunding platform. To respond to its ever-increasing customer base, the company knew it had to invest in the underlying technology so that it will be scalable. “Security, Availability, Performance Scalability” are major challenges of any business’s in today’s world. To solve these challenges Flentas proposed a Solution wherein these quality attributes are taken care of and also the infrastructure is easier to manage and maintain.
These were the high-level challenges faced by Crowd Funding Platform:
Performance and Scalability were major bottlenecks in their quest of reaching their ultimate goal of becoming the leaders in the global crowdfunding platform.
Latency issues coupled with frequent server issues.
No provision of backup and retention policy for the servers.
The provisioning of a DR setup was missing.
Least privilege access was not implemented.
No Logging & Monitoring of KPI’s for Production Server’s and Services
3. The Solution
Flentas proposed to help optimize and monitor their serverless infrastructure and also setup release management to cut release times.
Continuous monitoring of CPU Utilization, Memory, and Disk Space Utilization of all their AWS services set across multiple regions using AWS CloudWatch and alerting the team members by sending SNS notifications.
Established domain name health checks using Route53 and API health checks.
Removed unused and unwanted services that were incurring costs per month.
Security hardening by moving instances to the private network so that they are safe and secure.
IAM password policy, MFA on all IAM Users /Root Account
Implemented AWS X-Ray to track and monitor API request time so that it can be optimized.
AWS Lambda Scripts for Daily, weekly and monthly backups of all production EC2 instances along with retention.
Setup a complete DR provisioning solution. Here have used AWS CloudFormation stack that will create the whole DR infrastructure.
The Release Management process is leveraged by using native AWS DevOps Services like AWS CodeCommit for managing code, AWS CodeBuild for managing builds at scale, and AWS CloudFormation to manage the deployments.
4. The Benefits
Less management and maintenance of the serverless architecture enabled deploy services faster and thus they could focus on innovating ideas to help their crowdfunding platform grow.
Leveraged the CloudWatch Logs by detecting ERROR logs AWS Lambda and sending ERROR log by email’s with the integration of SES
The developer-friendly ecosystem of AWS helped them transition to the new environment very quickly and efficiently without much difficulty.
Migrating to the latest generation(AWS Nitro System) instance types which results in the better overall performance of the server whilst having cost optimization, increased security on all servers.
Lift and Shift of their Production servers to a more secure private network and having a NAT Gateway attached so the production servers are secure and also can interact with the internetwork
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) monitored in a single CloudWatch Dashboard with appropriate markers to help in detecting anomalies and study any kind of irregular spikes in respective production AWS services.
24x7 support provided to the organization to help them resolve their production issues as soon as they are detected so as to have maximum uptime.
In the future, they also wish to have more AWS managed services like AWS DynamoDB, AWS CloudSearch, AWS Aurora Serverless so that the maintenance of servers is completely disregarded and their primary aim of customer satisfaction is fulfilled.
AWS Infrastructure Optimization for Joi Gifts

2. The Challenge
These were the high-level challenges faced by Joi Gifts team:
Being an E-commerce platform, Joigifts platform had a lot of moving components
There was no inventory/audit of cloud resources being utilized across different environments
It was hard to keep a track of cloud consumption costs with multiple owners and unplanned AWS access
There were few performance-related issues due to surge in traffic and marketing campaigns
Site load times were going out of control given the number of new products and features being added to the platform every day
Strict monitoring of infrastructure resources, billing and application performance became increasingly important for sustenance

Flentas helped define and implement overall Optimization processes using AWS Services:
Deep dive into the existing environment and consolidated inventory of all cloud resources for better visibility of all application components
Structured tagging and Marking unused / un-utilized cloud resources for termination, hence saving huge costs

Ludo King DevOps Implementation

2. The Challenge:
Gametion has published multiple games for iOS & Android under its umbrella. Ludo King, one of their most successful game with 100+ Million user-base worldwide was migrated to AWS for handling increased traffic owing to increase in popularity. There was a need to release backend changes more and more frequently for small fixes or new features. Due to manual releases, it became hard to manage deployments across fleet of backend servers.
These were the high-level challenges faced by Gametion team:
No central code repository for mobile and backend application artefacts
Multiple versions of code per developer
Manual build and deploy
Lack of streamlined release process
3. The Solution
Flentas helped define and implement overall DevOps processes using AWS Services:
AWS Code Commit was set up as a central code repository in cloud for versioning of code
AWS Code Build was implemented for automating the dependency building of backend libraries
AWS Code Deploy was set up with a rolling deployment strategy for EC2 instances
AWS Code pipeline was used to orchestrate the entire release pipeline for every code push on the master branch
Separate pipelines were created which triggered auto build and deployments for different environments (Dev, QA and Production) respective to git branches (Git Flow)

Automatic release and deployments reduce human errors and increases reliability

2. Challenges:
- Managing a number of concurrent users at peak hours became unbearable for the application.
- Scaling the infrastructure is difficult as the application and the database reside on the same server.
- Placing the servers behind a load balancer was also a major issue because of the same reason.
- Infrastructure hosted in the Ohio region increased the latency towards catering the high number of users in India
3. Details of the Solution:
Flentas helped them to re-architect their existing solution so that application can scale during peak hours and was able to run with minimal latency
- Migrated the infrastructure from Ohio to Mumbai. With the majority of users based in India, the migration helped to reduce latency as the application is now located in Local AWS Region.
- The application and database were decoupled for scaling of the application.
- The load balancer was added in front of the web application servers to manage the seamless end-user requests.
- The application was modified to use shared centralized storage instead of local storage.
- To handle concurrent requests, the web service workers and applications were fine-tuned.
- Horizontal scalability is now possible, according to the traffic to serve maximum users automatically.
- Database storage is auto-scalable to updated unlimited Changes as per request.
- Real-time monitoring of application and the infrastructure is made available to prevent unwanted disasters and for future findings for RCA.
